AL POLIAK

Passion! No doubt music has always been mine. I started playing guitar when I was 17. Had a fairly successful three-piece acoustic act that kind of broke me into the Washington, D.C. music scene (best version of Suite Judy Blue Eyes you’ll ever hear).

A few years later, some friends of mine started a Rock ‘N Roll band and needed a piano player. With the exception of a couple years of piano lessons when I was 7 or 8 years old, I had never really played piano... certainly not in a Rock ‘N Roll band! After taking some time to figure out where middle C was, I joined the band. What took place for the next 13 years was a journey that will always occupy the most special place in my heart - ‘Crazy Fingers’ - a Classic Rock band that is still regarded as one of D.C.’s finest ever!

During those years, we played every bar, college, and  general dump you could play up and down the eastern seaboard. We shared the stage with many prominent bands as well - The Atlanta Rhythm Section, The Outlaws, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Jimmy Vaughn, and many more. I was extremely blessed by meeting and sharing my life with some very special people who would ultimately become my dearest and closest friends - Chris Marsh, Hal Squires, Steve Miller, and the list goes on. Stories! I promise, we’ve got ‘em! Never thought I would have the privilege to know and love another group of people in the same way....’till I met these characters in 1994!

All of us having played in other bands (a bit set in our ways), you can imagine that when we first met, there was the usual “butt sniffing” period that went on (well, Jim’s went on for a little longer than the rest of us). After that was out of the way and we started playing, what developed was a very, very special thing! A family if you will. I guess I’m the one everyone loves... to hate! I’m a bit of a perfectionist...except when it comes to me!

However, I think the result has been some pretty awesome stuff! I think we have all elevated ourselves musically. But most importantly, we all love and care about each other very much and that has elevated us personally beyond compare! The Xchange Band has been, and will continue to be a great experience for all associated with it. One day it will end. But in the mean time, I look forward to “JUST ONE MORE” !!!
